Secretoneurin abstract presented at ESC Heart Failure Congress 2026

Professor Peder L. Myhre from Ahus presented an abstract as a moderated poster titled “Circulating secretoneurin concentrations predict heart failure and mortality in elderly myocardial infarction survivors: data from the OMEMI Trial” at the ESC Heart Failure Congress 2026 in Barcelona on May 11.

The abstract presents data from the OMEMI Trial, including more than 1000 elderly myocardial infarction (MI) survivors followed over time for heart failure hospitalization and mortality outcomes. Higher circulating secretoneurin concentrations were independently associated with increased risk of both incident heart failure and death during follow-up.

The study reveals that secretoneurin is a strong prognostic marker, and that patients in the highest quartile had a dramatically increased risk of adverse outcomes. The findings support a potential role for secretoneurin in post-MI risk stratification and patient monitoring.
